Day 9- Last Rehearsal Day

The day has finally come! Today was our very last rehearsal day of Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. Although we are sad to see the show come to an end, we are so excited to finally have an audience! The show is full of upbeat music, exciting dances, and great characters that will definitely remind you of the original Schoolhouse Rock TV shows.

We had lots of fun today rehearsing and making sure our show is the best it can possibly be. We started off the morning learning our bows. Soon, it was time for snack. We all hung out and ate before going upstairs to run the show. This was our first time using microphones and full set. It was great to get a run in this morning before going outside for recess. After recess, we all came into the cafeteria for lunch. We headed back outside for more recess after our lunch break. Later, we came inside and ran the show once again.

Tomorrow is sure to be a hectic day. We will have two performances, Mass, and dinner all in one day! Camp has always been a great time for everyone involved since they began it in 2011. Catholic Community Choir’s first summer camp was Jungle Book Kids and it took place at St. Kevin’s. Soon the CCC shows started to take place at Cardinal O’Hara High School during the 2013-2014 school year. So, in the summer of 2014 CCC did their first summer camp at O’Hara. We’ve been performing there ever since. We love the amazing auditorium we now have access to. Thank you O’Hara for letting us use the theater!

Day 8- Beginning of the End

Today is day 8 of Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr., which means the show is in two days! With one more day left to rehearse, we’re working extra hard to make sure our musical numbers are in the best possible condition. This summer had a great kick off camp, Annie, Kids. Soon came A Year With Frog and Toad Kids. That was an amazing show with exciting music. Now we’re onto Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr., our final show of the summer. This show is a classic that all ages can enjoy. This summer has been a blast and seeing our campers shine on stage has definitely been the best part of it all!

IMG_0743.JPG

Today the campers had a very special guest come to speak to them, JP Dunphy. JP Dunphy is a professional actor and has acted in many theatre companies in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He is best known for his work at The Media Theatre. The children got to ask him many questions and watch him perform! In The Media Theatre’s upcoming season, JP Dunphy will be play Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast. The children loved talking to him and got some great advice from him, too!

The campers have been working so hard on making sure the show is great for our audiences on Friday. This morning during stage time, the campers reviewed the dances in the show. The campers continued to review the dances after snack. At 11am, JP Dunphy came to speak to the children. After, we decided that we should review some more. Soon we had lunch. Once lunch was complete, we went outside for recess. Then all the campers came inside to run the show!

Day 7- Putting It All Together

We are having so much fun here at Catholic Community Choir on day 7 of our Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. camp! The campers are singing loud and dancing like no one is watching. Today we pieced together all the musical numbers, so we can all get a better feel of how the show flows. The campers are doing such an amazing job retaining everything we’ve been teaching them, which makes camp days a lot easier and less stressful!

IMG_0725.JPG

We got a lot of work done today and still had fun at the same time! During stage time this morning we reviewed our dances to make sure they’re looking perfect for our shows on Friday. After we reviewed, the campers went down to snack. Once snack was over the older campers did a walk through of the show while the younger campers either went to games or art class. Soon we all came together and celebrated Mass today in honor of the Assumption of Mary. Mass was led by Father Masson, our Water Day race champion. When Mass was finished we all headed downstairs for lunch. After a relaxing lunch break the older campers had another walk through of the show. These walk throughs have been led by Melissa, Grace, and Erin. Finally, when the walk through was complete, all the campers came into the auditorium for afternoon stage time.

Day 6- Starting Week 2

Welcome to week 2 of Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr.! We think everyone needed lots of rest this weekend to prepare for the busy week ahead. This summer has been flying by! We’ve had so much fun throughout all three camps. Our staff loves singing and dancing with all the campers. Each camper works so hard to help our show come to life and it’s great to see their hard work pay off on the performance day. The performances for Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. will be on August 18th at 2pm and 7pm.

IMG_0649.JPG

We’re starting off week two very strong here at Catholic Community Choir. The campers started working early this morning with stage time. During stage time we reviewed all the music we learned last week. Soon we went to snack and after snack we broke up into our age groups. The older campers worked with junior staff members Grace, Billy, Erin, and Melissa on blocking some musical numbers. Meanwhile, the younger groups went to games, art, and faith formation. Before we knew it, it was time for lunch. We all had a relaxing lunch break and then made our way outside for recess. After recess we had our afternoon stage time. We’ve been working so hard these past six days, so our show is sure to be great!

Day 5- Water Day

Today is everyone’s favorite day, Water Day! On Water Day we rent water slides for the children to play outside in the field by the tennis courts. The campers have had lots of fun racing some staff members, too! Today we have the big race between Father John and Mr. Field. We are all so excited to see how this is going to go down. Stay tuned on our Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter to see who wins!

IMG_0587.JPG

Although we have lots of fun on Water Day, some work needs to be put into the show before we can go outside. In the morning we had stage time and reviewed all of the musical numbers we’ve been learning this week. Soon we all took a well deserved snack break. After, the younger campers went outside while the older campers learned the dance to “Do the Circulation.” Then the older campers went outside while the younger campers went to art and dance class. Lunchtime came so we all relaxed in the cafeteria. Afterwards, the campers went into the theater for stage time. Soon, the campers will go to various classes and then head outside as a full cast to have some fun on the slides.

Day 4- Singing Loud!

Today is day four of Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. and we are having such a great time! The staff loves becoming close with all the campers and helping them learn the show. Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. is full of upbeat songs and energetic dances, so the campers are having lots of fun. It’s hard to believe that this is our last camp. We’ve had a ball this summer with three shows and hundreds of campers!

IMG_0555-1.JPG

We’ve had a very productive day here at CCC. In vocal class, taught by Mr. Brac, the campers learned the song “Elbow Room.” In dance class the children reviewed all of the dances they’ve been learning this past week. In art class the campers worked on their kiss bags. Kiss bags are decorated by the campers and put in the lobby during the performances so friends and family can put nice notes and candy in them. In games, the children played kickball. And lastly, the older campers blocked the song “The Great American Melting Pot.” Camp days are filled with many fun classes that each camper can enjoy.

IMG_0581.JPG

Tomorrow is Water Day, which is always loved by campers. Our very own Mr. Field and Cardinal O’Hara’s Father Masson will be racing down our big waterslide. Stay tuned to see who wins! We can’t wait for you to see our performances on Friday, August 18th at 2pm and 7pm. Tickets are available online or at the door. The ticket link is here. Day 3- Progress, Progress, and More Progress

Today is day 3 of our Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. camp. We are having so much fun teaching all of the children the music and dances for our performances on August 18th. Today’s theme day was USA day. All of the children dressed up in their most patriotic attire. Theme days are always enjoyed by our campers, and staff as well!

IMG_0575.JPG

Like always, it was a very busy day. The campers started learning the song “Conjunction Junction” during stage time. We also reviewed all of the other songs we have been learning the past couple days. They also learned the dance to “Conjunction Junction” in dance class, led by Miss Erin. In art, the older campers painted the planets that they made yesterday. In games, the children played Sharks and Minos: Dodgeball Version. Sounds like lots of fun! The leads have been learning their blocking for the past couple days, taught by Grace Grassi. We’ve been making so much progress in learning our music and dances. It’s great to see the campers pick up on the music so fast!

IMG_0569.JPG

Be sure to join us next Tuesday at The Sweet Taco in Springfield for our Summer Fundraiser between 5:30 and 8:30pm! It’ll be so great to see so many CCC families there. Day 2- Working Hard!

Today has been another great day putting together Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. The campers are having so much fun learning the new music and dances. They’re also all becoming great friends, which is so nice to see. Each staff member is working very hard to make sure all the campers are having a great time!

IMG_0553.JPG

We’ve had a busy day at camp today. During stage time we learned the music to “Three is a Magic Number,” and reviewed the vocals to “A Noun is a Person, Place, or Thing.” During dance class the campers started learning the dance to “The Preamble.” In art class they started to make planets, which will be painted tomorrow. Today one of the junior staff members, Melissa, taught an acting class to the older campers. Throughout the class they discussed connecting with the other actors on stage and making good character choices. The campers loved it and are looking forward to the next class. Last, but not least, in games the children played Dodgeball and had so much fun!

IMG_0554.JPG

Day 1- The Last First Day

Welcome to Catholic Community Choir’s third and final summer camp this year, Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr.  We look forward to working with all the campers in this fun and exciting show! The story of our show follows a new teacher, Tom, right before he starts his first day of teaching. He’s very nervous about meeting the children and starting a new job. He turns on the television to calm his nerves and sees that Schoolhouse Rock is on. Soon, the characters from the TV show come out and sing to Tom about the many lessons he will teach his students!

FullSizeRender-2.jpg

Today has been a great start to a busy two weeks. The campers started learning the song “A Noun is a Person, Place, or Thing,” during stage time. Stage time is when the whole cast learns songs or dances from the show together, instead of in their age groups. This happens twice a day. In dance class, the campers learned the dance to “A Noun is a Person, Place, or Thing.” In art class, the children made pictures that will be hung in the lobby during the performances. Due to the rainy weather, games were located in the cafeteria. Nevertheless, the campers had lots of fun playing Musical Chairs and Detective Frog. In faith formation, the children talked about yesterday’s Gospel. As you can see, the children are staying busy and having lots of fun!

Day 9- One Day More

In the wise words of the musical Les Miserables, “One day more.” Only day more until our production of A Year With Frog and Toad Kids. We are so excited for everyone to see our show! The campers have been working so hard for the past two weeks, so be sure to come see all the effort they have put into CCC’s 31st production. Today the campers did multiple runs of their show. They also had recess outside and they had art class!

IMG_3794.JPG.jpeg

Today we had a speaker, Owen Pelesh, come to talk to the campers. Owen graduated from Cardinal O’Hara and went to Temple University with a major in Musical Theatre and a minor in Religious Studies. Owen has worked at professional theatre companies in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. The campers loved hearing how he became involved with theatre and about the shows he’s been in.
