Seussical Day 8: Christmas in July

Welcome back to CCC’s summer blog posts! Today is day eight of Seussical Kids and we are having the time of our lives. Camp is such a great time for campers and staff members. It is definitely something we look forward to all year long. The staff is now made up of mostly alumni, so they all have experienced camp for years. Staff member and CCC alumni, Ryan Jewell, says that he enjoys camp because he is doing what he loves with the people he loves.

Although Christmas in July is celebrated on July 25th, we decided to celebrate it a week early. This way all the campers could come in wearing their best Christmas attire. Campers of all ages were looking festive and definitely had the holiday spirit! Our show is really coming together. Today, we started to use microphones! Our costumes are almost complete and our set is looking fabulous. We’ve been running the show now for a few days and it is so full of energy. The campers put so much work into it and it is definitely paying off. Only a few small props need to be added to make our show perfect. Seussical Kids is full of fun dances, booming vocals, exotic costumes, a colorful set, and a strong cast. Our campers bring so much life to this production. We promise that you will not want to miss this one!

Last night we had Once on This Island Jr. auditions. There was so much talent! Although we don’t want Seussical Kids to end just yet, we are all looking forward to putting on Once on This Island Jr. as our third summer show.  Also, we had Kids Night Out last night. Children came to hang out, play games, eat pizza, listen to music, and make memories with their friends! Join us August 14th for another Kids Night Out. That will be Luau Night and we can’t wait!

Seussical Day 7: Piecing It All Together!

Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the 7th day of Seussical Kids! We’ve been working hard, in the heat of O’Hara, to put together a great show. Today is all about piecing together our set pieces, sound, and getting the flow of the show. At this point, everything is taught and we are running our show! Our cast has been amazing to work with, so it’s no wonder we’ve been getting everything done so early.

Today we did a full run of our show in the morning. It went so smoothly! Every cast member really knows what they’re doing and they’re having so much fun. The children played kickball during games and outside at recess. It’s always nice to have recess, so the full cast can have an opportunity to hang out together. Casts that are close friends always put on the best shows! Music and dance was combined today. There, we sang and danced to our big ensemble numbers in the show. Our set is almost complete! Today we are adding the finishing touches on our set. Our set is colorful and definitely took a lot of hard work. We can’t thank our set team enough! Our costumes are almost complete, too. Staff member, Gina Reed, has been working so diligently on each costume piece. We don’t know where we’d be without her sewing skills!

Tonight we have auditions for our third summer camp, Once on This Island! They take place at 5pm. Right after, we have Kids Night Out from 7-9pm. There will be games, music, and lots of fun tonight. Anyone is welcome!

Seussical Day 6: Back and Better Than Ever!

Welcome back to another great week here at Seussical Kids! We are all so excited to be back in O’Hara doing what we love most, performing and having fun with our friends! Our show opens on Friday. This means we’ll be working super hard all week long to brush everything up to perfection.

Today has been a big day. The first thing we did this morning was stumble through our show. We call this a stumble through because it was one of the first times we’ve ran it on stage. Therefore, there are some changes that have to be made. At this point, almost everything has been taught. We’ve been practicing our music and dances in dance class and vocal class. One of the hardest things about theatre is singing while dancing, but our campers are amazing! The cast sings their hearts out but also never miss a beat when it comes to dancing. Our set is almost complete! Our wonderful set design team has been working so hard and it is really paying off. As you can see, this show is coming together so smoothly and we can’t wait for audiences to see it.

One of the best parts of summer is beating the heat with Rita’s Italian Ice. Today, Catholic Community Choir is having a fundraiser at the Drexel Hill Rita’s, located at 5060 Township Line Road Drexel Hill, PA. All day long, cool off and support CCC! Thank you so much in advance for your participation.

Seussical Day 5: Water Day!

We are making a splash here at Catholic Community Choir! Today was Water Day so all the campers had the time of their lives going down the slides and playing with water balloons. Water Day is a CCC Summer Camp classic. It has been around since the beginning of camp, in 2011. Campers and staff members both enjoy having fun outside and relaxing in the sun.

Although we spent a lot of time outside, we also got work done! We stumbled through our show and pieced it all together. In art class the children made Dr. Seuss hats on Popsicle sticks. Our art projects always look so nice. They will all be hung in the lobby on show day, next Friday. We reviewed our dances with Miss Erin and went over our vocals with Miss Grace. In faith formation, Mr Field taught the children about the lost sheep. He always a valuable lesson prepared to teach the campers! The cast of Seussical Kids looks forward to hanging out with Mr Field in the air conditioned chapel every day.

Water Day is always a great time to be competitive with your friends. Two good friends, Mr. Field and Father John, raced today for the second year in a row. The two went head to head while going down the slide and through the slip and slide.  It was a close call, but in the end Father John came out victorious. The campers loved to watch the two race and make great memories. Campers picked teams and had a blast.

Seussical Day 4: Working Hard!

Today is day 4 of camp! Our week has been full of learning, laughter, and fun! The campers are having a great time in each class. They love all the activities they participate in during the day and hanging out with their friends. Seussical Kids is a great show that anyone would have fun putting together. It’s full of fun music, bright costumes, and an extravagant set. CCC is sure that audiences will love this production!

Today was extremely productive day here at summer camp. We’ve been having a great time while also getting work done! Today, some of our big musical numbers were taught on stage, taking advantage of the amazing set we have! We reviewed each song during vocal class. The campers’ vocals sound so enthusiastic and fun! In dance, the children danced to “Here on Who.” Our dances, taught by Miss Erin Murray, always look amazing and synchronized. Today in games, the children got to take a break from their hard work and participated in a scavenger hunt. It looked like a blast!

Tomorrow is a camp favorite, water day! Water day is when campers come with bathing suits under their camp shirts so they can play on the waterslides we have outside! The campers play with water balloons and slip and slides, while making memories that will last forever. Campers and staff members both love water day. Parents are reminded to send their children to camp with a towel in their bag, sneakers on their feet, and sunscreen on their skin! We are so excited to make a splash tomorrow.

Seussical Day 3: Philly Sports Day!

Happy hump day! We’re halfway done our week and our show is already looking great. The campers and staff have both been working so hard to put together a successful production of Seussical Kids! Today was Philly Sports Day! Campers and staff members came into camp wearing their best Eagles, Phillies, 76ers, and Flyers gear. The campers love and always look forward to theme days!

The campers definitely worked hard today. We learned the vocals for “Here on Who,” “Solla Sellow,” “It’s Possible,” and the “Finale!” We also reviewed the vocals for “Oh The Thinks You Can Think.” In dance class, the campers learned the dance to “It’s Possible.” Today’s project in art class was making Horton masks. In faith formation Mr. Field and the campers discussed how God leads us as His sheep and He is the Shepard. In games, Mr. Babcock led the campers in a game of Cops and Robbers. Our set is now done being built and all that’s left is to paint. Every scene has now been taught, too! Our hard work is paying off.

Our campers have been having so much fun. The children love the singing, dancing, acting, and games. One camper said that this is the most fun she’s ever had at a camp! It’s so nice to see the children having a good time while putting on a great show. We can’t wait for you to see our shows next Friday, July 20th, at 2pm and 7pm. Seussical Day 2: Meet the Staff!

Welcome to day 2 of camp! It has been a great day here at CCC. We’ve been learning the songs “It’s Possible” and “Here on Who.” We’ve been reviewing our music and dance for “Oh the Thinks You Can Think.” Also, we are done blocking our show! This means all our the scene work is complete. Lots of work has already been done, so we know our show is going to be amazing!

Our shows come together in 9 days. You might be thinking, “How can CCC get 148 children to put on a great show in such a short amount of time?” The answer is our wonderful staff! We have an amazing staff, made mostly of alumni, helping this show come together piece by piece.

This summer our shows are blocked by Melissa Goldhorn and Ryan Jewell. Grace Grassi teaches vocals, alongside Mr. Braconnier. Erin Murray is our choreographer. Billy Issertell oversees the progress of our productions and leads our technical staff. James Kull and John McCarthy lead Miss Steph’s Set Design Team. Livy and Lexie Murphy-Costanzo guide our youngest campers throughout the day. The majority of these workers are CCC alumni!

Mr. Braconnier teaches each song to the campers. Games are led by Mr. Babcock and the kids always have a blast. Mr. Field is in charge of faith formation and helping our campers grow in their spirituality. Miss Aimee Kate leads our team and oversees our daily operations. We also have many volunteers who assist our staff throughout their daily activities. They are a big help!

We are all working so hard at camp and we can’t wait for you to see our shows next week. Buy your tickets to see Seussical Kids here!

Seussical Day 1: New Day, New Camp

Welcome back to Catholic Community Choir’s summer camp blog posts! If you’re new to the CCC family, this blog will give you insight to everything going on at camp. Today was our kick off of Seusical Kids and certainly have been busy!

IMG_3618

For those who don’t know, we divide our 148 campers into age groups. Each group gets to go to each class; vocals, dance, acting, games, art, and faith formation. In vocals we learned the music to the opening number, “Oh The Thinks You Can Think.” We also learned the dance to it in dance class! In art class, the campers painted Horton the Elephant using pointillism. In faith formation we discussed the line said often in Seussical, “A persons a person no matter how small.” In acting, the older campers started learning their blocking for their scenes! During games, the children played a game called “Cinderella” with our games instructor, Mr. Babcock.

Since Seussical Kids is such an exciting show, we want to make sure we have the best set possible to balance the energy of the music and the cast. Therefore, our set team, led by James Kull and John McCarthy, has already started building. We plan on having bright, fun, and colorful set and we can’t wait for you to see it!

AristoCats Day 9: One Day More!

June 28, 2018 – There is one day until the show day! We are so excited to say the very least! This day has snuck up on us, but we are so ready. Tomorrow will be a long day, so make sure you pack everything you will need! It’s also going to be a hot one, so fill up your water bottles!

Today before we even started, the campers were on stage dancing to AristoCats music! After that, the counselors knew today was going to be a good day. Miss Melissa gave us some notes from yesterday, and then we were off! The campers learned how to exit and enter the stage today and did a great job. These campers are doing such an amazing job with this show and we can’t wait to show off our hard work!

Art class with Miss Grace was a fun time! The campers got to write some thank you letters to our leading sponsors! They were so happy to thank these people and businesses  for how much fun they are having at camp. Without our sponsors we wouldn’t be here today!

If you are interested in supporting CCC through a sponsorship, contact Aimee-Kate Braconnier at 610-544-5217. To see the complete list of summer sponsors, visit the link here.

We can’t believe the show is only one day away! Make sure you get your tickets for June 29th!

AristoCats Day 8: Wacky Wednesday!

June 27, 2018 – Today was Wacky Wednesday here at AristoCats Kids! Our campers love getting decked out in our camp themes and today was no different! We had so many pigtails, crazy socks and even masks! Our theme days always end in announcing who the best dressed campers were. These campers get a little prize and some bragging rights for being the wackiest! Our winners today were Teagan Baxter, Lilliana Kostik, Sophie Ryan, Mia Wagenborg, and Campbell Baxter. Thanks for all the wackiness!

Miss Grace became our art teacher today! The campers got to sit and design their very own kiss bags! We saw some pretty creative and colorful drawings and we can’t wait for our parents to see them! Kiss bags are a tradition here at CCC. During the show, parents and other audience members leave treats in the bags for their favorite cast members!

We doubled up a few classes today and that may seem like a crazy idea, but these campers are a pleasure to work with. It is so nice to see our older friends helping our younger ones. They all look out for each other and that is what CCC is all about!

Our campers had another terrific stage time today! Even Miss Melissa said, “I don’t have many notes because that was awesome guys!” They really gave it their all and we are so proud! We even got done super early and had enough time to choreograph the bows sequence! Their energy was contagious! All of the counselors were dancing to the bow music!

We can’t believe the show is only three days away! Make sure you get your tickets for June 29th!
